Job Specification

As an Innovation Analyst, you’d have a varied role, undertaking a broad range of tasks, collaborating closely with members of our innovation, investment and portfolio teams. You would be responsible for:

Responsibilities

Innovation Advisory

  • Performing in-depth industry and trends research, extracting key takeaways and organising them into actionable and digestible documents.

  • Identifying needs and desires of consumers, frictions, pain points, and potential opportunities.

  • Designing, coordinating and managing research activities.

  • Generating and articulating thought-provoking consumer and commercial insights.

  • Building key deliverables to be presented to senior executives in our partner organisations: ability to communicate sharp and concise message through well-articulated slide decks.

Innovation Flow

  • Researching technology areas to identify best-in-class businesses and potential strategic partners for True and our corporate partners.

  • Assessing startups (including meetings with founding entrepreneurs) and their applicability for our roster of Partners.

  • Liaising directly with founding entrepreneurs and the broader VC and tech ecosystem to build long-term relationships and effect purposeful introductions to our Partners.

  • Producing documents cataloguing our activities with our Partners to demonstrate value and impact.

  • Managing the categorisation within our innovation flow tracker system.

  • Working closely with our Investment team to drive innovation flow to create potential investment opportunities and for introduction to our Partners. This will involve building a network within the retail and consumer start-up and venture capital communities.

  • Working with the marketing team to drive deal flow and Partner engagement through alignment with digital marketing activities.

The successful candidate will have:

  • A demonstrable interest in the retail and consumer industries and entrepreneurship.

  • A strong academic background with a good degree from a Tier 1 University.

  • An ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging, dynamic environment.

  • A strong work ethic with high attention to detail and the ability to demonstrate an affinity with True’s medium and long-term ambitions.

  • An appreciation of early-stage investment and, as a minimum, be able to demonstrate an understanding of True’s business model and strategy.

  • Project management and planning facilitation to ensure deadlines are met.

  • A confident and charismatic personality with exceptional interpersonal skills

  • A strong cultural fit with the founders, directors and the wider True team.

  • Be able to demonstrate excellent written, presentational and oral communication skills.

  • Strong numeracy skills.

  • An ability to demonstrate high levels of discretion and judgement when working with confidential information.

True Analyst Programme

Our Analyst Programme is a 24-36 month-long experience for recent graduates passionate about the world of investment and innovation in the retail and consumer sector.

Our aim is to help you develop a broad range of relevant skills and experiences and prepare you for a potential transition to a role as an Associate. You will learn by doing. In addition to partner work and research, our Analyst Programme includes regular training and development sessions, access to online learning resources and a mentor to work with you on building specific skills that will help you meet pre-defined professional development goals.

Overview

Months 0-3: Onboarding - structured introduction and onboarding to True's business, culture and colleagues.

Months 4-6: Building the foundations - basic skills and knowledge training, network creation and personal development planning.

Months 7-12: Developing the fundamentals - advanced skills and elective knowledge training combined with collaborative on-the-job training.

Months 13-36: Mastering the fundamentals - advanced skills and knowledge training to reinforce expertise and develop your personal/professional brand platform enabling a transition to an Associate role.
