Sophia grew up in South Korea, before coming to the UK as an exchange student and deciding there and then to stay. Apart from a three year stint in the US, she has been here ever since, and worked in transaction services at PwC, finance at Shell and senior management at Lloyds Bank Corporate Finance, before coming to True.
I really liked the ethos and business model/mindset of True — balancing purpose and profit, creating true partnership and a thriving network within the retail and consumer industries.
My job is to make sure that every time we spend £1 today we get at least £1.2 in 1 year’s time. I also help ensure the £1 spent is something helpful and meaningful to people and the planet.
I love that every day is unpredictable — the breadth of skillsets required and the variety of business challenges/problems I get involved in. However, this could also be what makes the role difficult!
I wish I had thought of the concept of smartphones — which has truly changed how we interact and even how our brains are wired. I think it’s the best invention after the internet.
